Limitations and Beyond

Limitations (n) : a limiting rule or circumstance; a restriction.

We all have our own limitations. We all have a threshold with which we gauge our abilities and actions.

In my opinion, there are several factors that we can consider as the source of these restrictions we have.

First, our circumstances: we have varying environment wherein we live our lives; this environment have a direct effect on the limitations we have as a person. Second, is our faith and beliefs: the principles we tend to follow are somewhat limitations that we can consider inherent – our faith dictates what is wrong and right. We may not follow it through and through but most of our actions are guided, if not influenced by our core values derived from our beliefs. Last but not the least, are our selves: believe it or not, I think it is but common that we have our self-imposed restrictions that we either consciously or unconsciously follow. Often times we are blinded by our fears and insecurities. These two contributes to the facade of our own persona – an image, which we think is all that can be and all that will be of ourselves.

Out of these three factors, the last one is the most ominous. Those self-imposed restrictions are what hinders growth most of the time. It is our lack of courage and confidence that contributes to that aforementioned image. An image of despair. But fear not my friend, there’s always a way of conquering your limitations.

CHALLENGING yourself is a good way of overcoming these limitations. I for one experienced this a couple of days ago, as I was on the gym with my personal trainer – I didn’t know I would be able to lift such heavy weight as it was my first time doing it. I was afraid and inside, I just felt I couldn’t do it. But hey, thanks to Matt (my trainer) with the proper guidance and words of encouragement, I thought might as well try. To my surprise (and my trainer’s too) I was able to do it. More often than not, you just always have to TRY. The good thing about trying is that it is what hurts the least if you failed, that’s for sure! You know why? It is because after trying while giving it your best and you didn’t do good, you at least know the result and you wont be stuck with the what if(s) therefore you won’t be bothered by the thought of regret of not doing it. I know how frustrating that can be! Lastly, SURROUND yourself with RIGHT people! The guidance and boost of morale from Matt sure helped a lot. That is why, I highly recommend that you surround yourself with people that would genuinely support you on your endeavours. A little push and nudge from them will surely help you overcome your own limitations! And be sure to the same to them! 🙂

“You’ve got to know your limitations. I don’t know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren’t too many limitations, if I did it my way”

I hope I was able to impart a lesson or two from my own experience and helped you, even if its just a little, in overcoming your own restrictions.
